COURSE OVERVIEW

The Preceptor 101 Program is designed to help you make the transition from staff/team member to preceptor. Training students and new CST's is important for continuing the growth of knowledge and increasing the ensuring a high level of care for patients.
 

Learning to be a preceptor requires that you acquire and integrate new knowledge, attitudes, and skills. This program utilizes a variety of adult teaching strategies and active learning experiences to assist in your development as a preceptor.

Course Objectives

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Define the terms preceptor, orientee, and orientation.

  • Describe the responsibilities of the preceptor.

  • Describe the role of the preceptor.

  • Identify the benefits of preceptorship to the organization.

  • Describe the educational process, principles of adult learning.

  • Explain the “One-Minute Preceptor” method of precepting.

Course "Textbooks"

We will not be using a "textbook" for this course. Weill be utilizing critical thinking, experience, social media tools, and other web-based resources.

For this course, you will need to create a Facebook Account. If you already have one, you will need to join the NIC - Surgical Technology Preceptors group. This is a closed group, so you will need to request permission to join.

You will also need to create a blog for this course. In this blog, you will collect assignments, reflect on surgical practice, and showcase your work.
